I could hear crackling burning sounds emanating from the unit casing. I immediately shut the unit down. The manufacturer made no effort to replace my heater or cover any of my costs. In fact two letters delivered by post produced no response. I read in the unit paperwork the warranty is not transferable. I took the time to deliver the burned motor with burned black windings which probably was the source of the fire to the manufacturer and failed to receive a response or acknowledgement of the device. I have a salt-water pool and it was actually the wrong type of system, but it lasted for three years under the harsh salt-water conditions. This new model is made properly for my type of pool. It was amazingly easy to install - hook up the electric, gas and water, turn everything on and it worked. You have to turn it on and off several times to bleed the air out of the gas line, but the directions warn you of that. As soon as it was getting gas, it fired up and stayed that way.If you leave this on too long and it runs too much, it goes into "service" mode. But that is easily fixed - turn it off and back on and it works just fine. It also came with a bag of parts, including gaskets for the water, which was nice. I didn't need them, but the ones I have will wear out sooner or later and now I have replacements. Even though I purchased mine through another online pool store, I wanted to give my experience on this pool heater. I buy all my big ticket items through Amazon because of the wonderful CS, no tax, free and fast shipping that Amazon offers. The only reason I didn't buy my Sta-Rite SR400NA Max-E-Therm Black LP Gas Pool Heater, 333K BTU is the simple fact that Amazon did not sell it at the time.This is a BEAST of a pool heater. I have a 30,000 gallon in ground pool and researched pool heaters for weeks. This unit well heat my pool fast. I use propane or LP and was advised to buy the 333K, BTU model. I have owned it for about 3 years and have not had one problem. I have a salt water generator that is harsh to metal.
