2.0 out of 5 stars Heats great, Leaks too..., April 29, 2012

I have had the heater installed almost two years.

Pros:
It heats the spa faster then the heater it replaced despite being slightly smaller.
It looks great
Its so much quieter than the old heater, its hard to believe its even on.

Cons:

Its sensitive to gas and water pressure. Initially I was frequently tying figure out an intermittent problem were the "LO" emergency light would display and the hater would fire. The heater would be fine during the day then during the evening when we were getting home, making dinner, heating up the hot water, and heating the house suddenly the pool heater would shut down and give an error code. Finally I had the gas company out and they confirmed the heater was having a problem despite everything being sized right (meter, pipes) even if everything was running full blast at the same time. I asked then to give us the largest capacity meter they had, and the problem has never returned. In an attempt to... Read more

I did all the math and needed a 175kbtu unit, but this was only a few hundred more and I figured I would rather use it on demand rather than have to leave a smaller one running. Dang I am brilliant. We went skinny dipping on New Years, and the wife and kid used it all last week. If it is a bit cold, we can fire this up and hang out by a vent to acclimate as the pool warms up. It heats the pool fast, although I do have to make sure that the filters are very clean or it shuts down due to a low flow condition, which would probably not happen so easy with a smaller unit. But wow, it is an easy to use unit. Cost $750ish for a local contractor to install. I will plumb a solar unit in series to it next, but for now, swimming season has started in N. Texas.
